TYPOGRAPHY

Exploring emphasis and voice throughout songs, this poster demonstrates the feeling of the song, “The Dove” by The Belonging Co. The verses are relaxed, but the tempo and tone increases at the bridge. The meaning of the song is wrapped up at the end of the bridge with “it is not by my own earning to have the helper at my side,” so I decided to make that the most emphasized lines on the poster. Throughout the song, “Holy Spirit” and “we want more of you” is repeated many times, so those lines are repeated in the background of the design.

I chose the song “The Dove” which tells the story of the dove throughout the Bible, from the Fall to Jesus’s baptism. Throughout the past few weeks leading up to this project I could not get the bridge of this song out of my head, so I decided to emphasize the line “not by my own earning.”

In a song packed with so much truth, I feel like this line conveys the message of the song, and the gospel as a whole. What a beautiful picture of Christ’s sacrifice- it is not by our earning, but because of the crucifixion that we are given eternal life.
